When you get your work back from me, you think “Wow! That’s exactly what I wanted!” For first-time clients, the first edited 10% of the manuscript will be sent to you for review. In case we turn out not to be as right for each other as we thought, we can part ways with no money or hard feelings changing hands.

As I work with both fiction and non-fiction manuscripts, some details apply more to one or the other. Specific parameters will be adjusted to meet your needs.

After reviewing the following options, please click the pink Contact button at left to get started. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

Copy Editing

Your manuscript has seen a developmental/substantive editor or other qualified professional and has been revised to ensure organization, character development, and flow. Large structural changes are not needed at this point, but a good tidying up is.

Here’s what I’ll be paying specific attention to:
◦    Faulty spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
◦    Incorrect homonyms and other spell check oversights (there, their, they’re, etc.)
◦    Consistency in  specific cross-references
◦    Consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization.
◦    Checking for proper sequencing (such as alphabetical order) in lists and other displayed material.

◦    Changing text and headings to achieve parallel structure.
◦    Inappropriate figures of speech.
◦    Continuity of plot, setting, and character traits, and querying the discrepancies.
◦    Enforcing consistent style and tone in a multi-author manuscript.
◦    Effective sentence structure and formatting
◦    Inconsistencies in style
◦    Word choice and flow

This is the final check before uploading to the self-publishing platform of your choice (Book Baby, Amazon, Smashwords, etc.). Your book has been critiqued by beta readers and has been through the hands of a copy editor and developmental editor, or at least someone you trust to make sure your book is the best it can be. The last thing you want is for readers to be distracted by pesky errors that pull them out of the story and give indie publishing a bad name.

My sharp eyes are constantly finding little mistakes in indie books (and yes, sometimes traditionally published books as well) that have been copy edited and proofread. These authors are putting out a fantastic story and I wish I could help them out. It’s like someone getting all glammed up for a big event and no one has told them their tag is sticking out or that their socks don’t match. Don’t let this happen to you!

I, being human, cannot 100% guarantee that your book will be completely error free after I’m done with it, but perfection is what I aim for and I am an over-achiever.

Here’s what I’ll be paying specific attention to:
◦    spelling
◦    grammar
◦    punctuation
◦    syntax
◦    typos
◦    verb tense
◦    capitalization

Yes, this is on the low end for this type of service but I am counting on your work being in excellent shape, just needing that last pair of fresh eyes to give it a careful once-over.
