“At the Smithy” is a place where I discuss what I am currently learning about, be it through a book, an ecourse, a teleclass, or a life experiment. This is my opportunity to model what I’m teaching others and legitimizes all the self-work I like to do (bonus!).
Apparently this is a great productivity tool for me. Last Friday, I introduced my first “At the Smithy” Project, Magical Mapping. I committed to Steps 1-3, and wound up accomplishing steps 4 and 7 as well. I guess I don’t need to feel so lazy after all!
Here’s how it went:
I blocked out two hours on Monday to work on this, from 9:30-11:30. I began by pulling up my brainstorming document and revising it. I also tried a mind-mapping freeware program, but as fun as it was it didn’t really help me. I’m more of an outline person.
Next, I reviewed the productivity and planning resources I’d collected. I’d been afraid that I would get lost chasing down rabbit holes but I actually did okay. I mostly decided they didn’t really apply anymore.
I got a bit stuck at the visioning step, but managed to create income stream tables for each of the next five years. I know I have an idea of what I want my business to look like in each stage, but for some reason that wasn’t really translating to the page. Oh, well.
As I am great with structure, mapping out a daily/weekly/monthly schedule was easy. Now I just have to try it and see what adjustments need to be made.
Next week, I’ll revisit the steps I skipped. Hopefully I will make some progress.
